#7 Tires
There comes a time in one's life when you will have to change a tire or at least own a car or any sort of vehicle for that matter. And even those who have not done any of this would have still noticed those markings on the sides of the tire. Those are not for decoration and here's what they mean!
#6 Tire Class
The first letter indicates the tire class. Common indications are 'LT' meaning Light Truck indicating that the tires are suitable for small payload trucks and 'P' stands for passenger cars.
#5 Section Width Tread(mm)
The next three numbers in the series denote the width of the tire from one side wall to the other side wall. The section width is in mm.
#4 Aspect Ratio
Aspect ratio indicates the height of the side wall. For example, if an aspect ratio is mentioned as 45, then it means that the side wall height is 45% of the section width.
#3 Construction
Next, comes the indicator about construction. Here R stands for radian and means that layers of fabric run radially across the tire.
#2 Diameter
After construction comes the indicator for the diameter. It is represented in inches and shows the wheel diameter.
#1 DOT and Speed Rating
The speed rating represents the maximum speed at which a properly fixed and inflated tire can run on. The DOT shows that the DoT minimum criteria has been met or passed.
