People like to forget
People sometimes forget that handicapped people are real people as well. They forget this, or, they like to forget this by branding handicapped people as different. But they are people just like us. They face problems and struggles in their life just like we do.
In fact, they actually have things a lot worse than we do. Try going through a day in your life with one hand tied behind your back. Makes working a lot more difficult doesn't it? Menial tasks such as cleaning and eating all seem to get a lot messier and difficult. Oh, and those people making fun of how you look is also something that happens a lot. Even with just a day you cannot truly begin to comprehend what a handicapped person goes through every day.
A lesson to remember
More than 30% of the drivers in Russia take disabled parking spaces without caring about the signs on the ground. Dislife, a Russian non-profit organisation, came up with a powerful campaign to stop this inconsiderate behaviour.
These drivers seem to forget about real handicapped people who are going through life. They consider such a thing as handicapped reservation a pointless privilege. They seem to forget the privileges that they were all born with as they do so. Dislife tries to teach them a lesson they won't easily forget.
Spread the word
The people from Dislife installed projections of a real disabled person that popped up every time a non-disabled driver tried to park in their space. Special cameras verified the presence of the disabled sticker on their windshields and if no sticker was detected, the hologram would appear to confront the driver. Watch the stunt in action below.
And please try to consider that every time you park in a disabled spot you steal a parking spot from a person who really needs it.
