The Wallet
Love and relationships are difficult. Especially in today's times when link-ups and break-ups happen at the drop of a hat.In such an atmosphere stories as true and heartwarming as these are difficult to find.
The story begins with an unsuspecting man stumbling upon a wallet. The man makes the right decision and decides to find the owner of the wallet. What happens next? Click next to find out.
Looking For The Owner
Upon inspection of the wallet the man found three dollars and a letter. Finding no other way to identify the owner the man decided to open the letter. The contents of the letter were the most heartbreaking thing he had ever read.
But the letter itself contained no other clues to the owners identity. Upon closer inspection he found an address on the envelope containing the letter. He called up the operator seeing as this was his only lead.
A New Lead
The Operator seemed reluctant at first but finally gave in. The operator refused to give a number but promised to contact the number and speak to the people themselves. The man soon got a call back saying that the other party wanted to speak to him.
The man asked the person on the phone whether she knew someone named Hannah. He got a new lead as the person gave him another number. The story of the break-up made it personal now. The man would find these two people. He would bring them together.
Battling Doubt
The man followed his leads. He found out that Hannah herself was now living in a nursing home. This made sense when you keep in mind the date written on the letter.
For a moment he doubted himself. He doubted what he was doing, he had no reason to be doing this. The whole thing could be an elaborate prank. But the man kept at it. He had new leads he needed to follow.
A Magical Meeting
It was 10 in the night. The man had been at this for almost the entire day now. But the goal was so close. He had the address now. He swallowed his doubts and asked if he could visit the woman named Hannah.
The moment he laid eyes on her it was like watching a fictional character come alive. The Hannah he knew only from the letter, the Hannah who had been forced to give up on her love by her mother, the Hannah who had a beautiful handwriting was now in front of him. It was a pleasant and magical meeting.
Looking For Michael Goldstein
The woman reminisced about her past. About her teenage crush. About what love was. Hannah had never married. Nobody had ever measured up to Michael Goldstein, her first love.
At this point the narrator takes his leave. He feels satisfied having done everything he could. He planned on letting it go for now. He had a new lead- a surname. But tomorrow was a new day. He was about to go home, when something completely unexpected happened.
The Final Piece Of The Puzzle
The guard recognized the wallet. The final piece of the puzzle was closer than the narrator ever expected. He could not contain his excitement. He ran back to the nurse.
He prayed that Mr.Goldstein was still awake. He could not go back now. He was too close to the goal. The suspense was too much.
The Owner Of The Wallet
He met Mr. Goldstein. Finally having found the owner of the wallet, the reason for his quest, he felt like he owed the owner an explanation. He told Mr. Goldstein that he had read the letter.
The narrator understood that the letter was a cherished memory for Mr. Goldstein. It was the reason he had kept the letter for so long. Reading the letter was an invasion of Mr. Goldstein's privacy.
Remembering Hannah
Mr.Goldstein felt bad initially that this stranger had read his letter. But finding out that he also knew where to find Hannah immediately changed Mr. Goldstein's opinion of him. All of the memories Mr. Goldstein had of his first love came rushing back to him.
He wondered if she was just as pretty as she was when he first saw her. Mr. Goldstein had never married. He had always waited for Hannah. Just as she had waited for him.
God Works In Mysterious Ways
The narrator told Mr. Goldstein that he knew where his Hannah is, and decided to take him there. All three of them found themselves back at Hannah's room. The old couple was rendered speechless at the meeting. For them it was a long cherished dream.
With the help of the narrator their dream had come true. They had a teary reunion and the nurse and narrator took their leave. The two of them had a lot of catching up to do. The narrator had his faith in god restored as he had just witnessed this entire ordeal firsthand.
A Beautiful Wedding
The story continues about three weeks later. We are still with the narrator, he gets a call from the nursing home. Hannah and Michael are getting married!
The narrator attends as the best man, as he was the one responsible for bringing the bride and the groom together. The narrator ends the story in his own words. The story gives you valuable insight into love, as true and pure as it can be.
