Other than being a woman's best friend, diamonds are popularly known as the hardest substance but no more. Yes! Diamond is no longer the hardest substance on Earth. The scientists of State Carolina University have discovered a new phase of Carbon is called Carbon Q which is harder than Diamond.
#4 Properties
This substance is quite different in its properties from graphite or Diamond for that matter. It has its own unique properties some of them were unexpected like ferromagnetism. Another property is that it starts to glow when present in some energy.

Carbon Q, a closer look. This Q- phase of Carbon was created using a laser beam on amorphous carbon for 200 nano seconds. The temperature of Q Carbon rose and dropped sharply because of the process called quenching.
