A dog is a mans best friend. The dog is with us every day and follows us every step of the way. Sometimes it is easy to forget that the dog is just an animal. Sometimes a dog becomes a lot more important than just an animal. One such amazing friend and companion is Kye.
Kye is a police dog who lost his life in the line of duty. For his fellow police officers Kye was more than just a dog. Kye was a friend, a fellow guardian and a brave soul. Kye was a resident of Oklahoma City. He lost his life while trying to catch a knife-wielding thief. What happened to the thief? Just how loved and well respected was he? #4 The Death Of A Hero
K-9 officer Kye, a 3-year-old Belgian German Shepard, was stabbed while taking down the suspect in the chase. His handler sergeant Ryan Stark shot the suspect and fatally wounded him, but only after the dog had been stabbed. Kye was rushed to the emergency room,and immediate medical attention was given to him. But it was all too late, Kye the police dog died on his hospital bed.
"Without question, Kye's sacrifice saved the life of one of the officers," said Sgt. Coy Gilbert, who delivered the eulogy inside First Baptist Church in Del City. Kyle was given a grand send off fit for a hero. He was laid to rest with full honors and a funeral service. Everyone who worked at the police station attended. But there were many more. #3 A Final Goodbye
More than 1,000 people and dozens of canine handlers and service dogs attended the funeral service, including Sgt. Stark and his family. The Oklahoma Police Department itself posted an image of the teary goodbye sergeant Stark shared with his partner. The sergeant leaned over the casket and gave him a final loving pat. This heart warming picture posted by the Oklahoma police department quickly went viral all over the internet. People from all over the world identified with this kind and loving gesture.

#2 They Could Not Help It
Funeral-goers shed tears before his coffin. They just couldn't hep it. Kye was draped in an American flag while being buried. He was given an emotional 21 gun salute to show just how much he was respected.The flag from Kye's casket was presented to the sergeant. His remains will also stay with the Stark family.
