Functioning Model

Opening Ceremony
This project is due to be opened on Friday by the president of Swiss federal council, Doris Leuthard in the Alpine resort of Stoos, 1,300 meters above the sea level.

World’s Steepest Railway Line
The train comprises of two lines of cylindrical carriages resembling the beer barrels, which will allow the passengers to stay upright all the time, even if they ascend or descend. Around 743 meters of the total length of the track has gradients as high as 110%.

Operational Path
It will run from the Valley Station near Schwyz into the mountain village of Stoos and can accumulate a population of 100 persons, about 30 miles (50km) south of Zurich

Historical Facts
The funicular railway line has actually replaced one of the oldest lines that had been operated since 1933. Before selecting the existing route alignment and technology, the engineers analyzed about 15 different options and successfully replaced the traditional aerial gondola funicular railway line to a gradient of 110%.
The older project ruled out because it would have to pass through an active shooting range with a maximum gradient of 106%.
