#8 Unicorns
The very first appearance of the magical and mystical unicorns was mentioned in the Bible (Numbers 24:8) and in many other medieval works and places. Even the Roman historians believed in the existence of Unicorns! Incredible stories about unicorns? Definitely yes. Do they really exist? Sadly no.

#7 Bonnacon
Wow....people in the past sure had a wild imagination. Apparently, this Bonnacon was a mystical creature, having a horse's mane and a bull's body. It used its poop as a weapon! It's said that it's poop was acidic and the Bonnacon could shoot it over 600 meters at the enemies.

#6 Vegetable Lamb
Okay...this is quite surprising. Surprising that people actually believed this...uhm...stuff. This rumor began in the Middle Ages and was spread by a person known as Rabbi Yohanan of Jerusalem. It was a special lamb grown from plants.

#5 Aspidochelone
'Aspidochelone' means...quite simply put is a huge creature with a back so big that it looked like an island. Stories of this creature were seen first in Christian and then in medieval texts(anyone noticing a pattern here?)

#4 Jackalope
Of all the things on this list, the thing I most wish was real is this one. The horned rabbit sightings go all the way back to the 17th century with numerous tales spread across centuries.

#3 De Loys' Ape
Thank god this bit of fable is false or we would be facing a 'Planet of the Apes' scenario right now. Swiss explorer François De Loys' was only seeking attention when he came forth with this information, it was dismissed as a hoax, along with this picture that was presented as proof.

#2 Dragons
Hate to break it to you GOT fans but dragons are nothing but a figment of our imagination. These fiery breathing creatures were first mentioned by Chinese scholar Lei Xiao.

#1 Mermaids
Mermaids appear in the folklore of many cultures worldwide, including the Near East, Europe, Africa and Asia. Most commonly circulated amongst sailors who would speak of a woman with a fish tail who would lure them to their death.
