So finally, the music began and John and Stephanie broke out their fancy footwork. he moved smoothly to the song “Soul Serenade,” with Stephanie cooly doing the same. He swung her around as the onlookers howled from the sidelines.

John very confidently shakes his rump for the crowd. He was letting his hair down, that’s for sure. Gliding across the floor, the pair had their competitors mesmerized. John effortlessly spun his partner around and Stephanie herself lit up like a shining star.

Everything went to a whole new level. As the music changed to more contemporary, so did the duo’s swing dance performance.

Their routine sped up while “Damaged” by Danity Cane played in the background. Their sultry dance reached new heights with moves that had audience members cheering from their seats.

They were on fire and the crowd loved them. Most importantly though, it’s obvious they were having fun. John and Stephanie’s routine actually made them the Phoenix champions that year! The video of their swing performance also went viral, and now has nearly nine million views on YouTube alone.

He started out country-western dancing in the early 90s, eventually becoming a champion in the genre of swing.
