#8 The Freeman Ranch
Lying seven miles north-west of San Marcos, Texas, there is a ranch which is about 16-acre in size, it is called The Freeman Ranch. This farm does not grow crops, neither does it have any livestock!
You will be extremely shocked to know what lies here!
#7 The Body Farm
Also known as the body farm, this farm is a part of forensic anthropology center at the Texas State University. The main purpose of this farm is to study the entire process of decomposition of human body post-death!
#6 The Corpses
This is why around fifty or more naked human bodies are scattered all across the field. These bodies are specifically donated for research purposes and the researchers leave them out in open to observe the effect of different weather conditions on the bodies.
#5 The Different Conditions
While some of the bodies are left just beneath the sun, others are kept in the shade. Although most of the bodies are protected by two-foot-high metal cages, some are fully exposed to nature, so that the researchers can get a chance to observe the effects of vultures using tree-mounted game cameras.
#4 Useful For Criminal Investigations
The research carried out by experienced researchers help mainly in the criminal investigations. They are also helpful in understanding the time of the death by studying the decomposition of the body.
#3 The Three Stages of Decomposition
The body goes through three stages of decomposition from the grisly beginning to the spare, dried-out end. The first stage begins just after the death where the body bloats because the bacterias inside the body release gas as they consume the body's carbon component!
#2 The Advanced Stage
Next is the advanced stage where the body bursts and releases the decomposition fluids.
#1 The Final Stage
Finally is the dry decay stage where all of the flesh of the body is consumed. This stage is usually reached after several weeks and is the stage most of the bodies at the Freeman Ranch are in.
Disturbing the dead isn't their aim. But they have to do it for the sake of science!
