Pictures where the Olympic winners are biting on their medal.
And obviously at one point of time or the other we have wondered why they do that...
And most of us would have concluded by telling ourselves that it was some sort of weird Olympics tradition.
C'mon accept it! You aren't the only one after all!
Well that's not the reason at all.
But there's this theory that might help us solve this mystery...
#2 They do it to test the quality of the gold medals?!
Wait, what?!
Compared to other medals, gold is much softer and malleable. One of the ways to test its authenticity is to bite it, if its real your teeth will leave bite marks on it, otherwise it won't.
That doesn't make any sense now!
Because it's not just the gold medalists who do it. And more so ever, more than the medal, the prominence it holds is what matters to the athletes.
So, why do they do it?! The real answer is...
#1 They do it for the photographers!
"It's become an obsession with the photographers," David Wallechinsky, president of the International Society of Olympic Historians, told CNN.
"I think they look at it as an iconic shot, as something that you can probably sell. I don't think it's something the athletes would probably do on their own." He added that it's especially popular among swimmers.
I bet Michael Phelps's teeth are having a field day...
