#7 The Northern Europe
Northern Europe has become a sort of a treasure trove for archaeologists. For it has presented them with something quite interesting- 'bog butter.' This phenomenon was quite prominently noticed in Ireland and Scotland. This occurrence has captured the attention of many scientists and historians.
#6 What is 'Bog Butter'?
'Bog Butter' is actually a result of a practice thousands of years ago where butter was stashed and preserved in 'bogs.'
Bogs are a sort of natural land terrain.
The butter prepared was with common methods such dairy fat, tallow or lard. As one might expect after all these years, it smells absolutely awful.
But we are not here to talk about bog butter! We are here to talk about bog bodies!(And no they ain't made of butter.)
#5 Tollund Man
He is one of the most famous bog bodies known today. Tollund Man was found in 1952 in Denmark. He was found completely naked except for a belt and a hat.
Tollund Man also has a noose which has a loop with a running knot(the kind used to hang people). These observations has lead the experts to believe that he hanged to death,naked and in public....a very humiliating way indeed.
#4 Grauballe Man
Yet another famous bog body specimen is the Grauballe Man. He was too found in Jutland Peninsula of Denmark. He was completely naked too and had red hair, whicg scinetists believe was an effect of the bog. His neck was severed so forcefully that his attacker severed his esophagus and trachea.
Usually, the conditions of the bog severly tan the skin of the bodies while the bones are dissolved. But in this case, the bones were perfectly preserved.
#3 Lindow Man
Lindow Man is yet another famous bog body, since he was the only most intact bog body to be found in England. He was discovered back in 1984.
His body is without doubt, the reminder of a very violent murder. It is said that Lindow Man was first hit on the head with a blunt weapon or something but he survived. After which he was stabbed in the chest and strangled later on.
#2 Croghan Man
Croghan Man was found in Ireland and one of the lesser known bog bodies but still impressive as any other. As per evidence, he was tortured to death by having his nipples cut off.
#1 Yde Girl
Not just men but women were murdered as gruesomely back then. An example of this is the Yde Girl found in Netherlands. It has been studied that she was 4′ 6″ and a 16-year old at the time of death and had scoliosis. She was hanged with a noose and stabbed near her collarbone.
