#9 Spider's Web

In 1948, zoologist H.M. Peters started studying the garden spiders with their web spinning patterns and time cycle for building their webs.

However, he got annoyed with spiders building their webs between 2a.m. and 5a.m. and thus, he asked his pharmacologist Peter N. Witt to drug them to see if it can help.

#8 Drug Experiment

The drugs used were Amphetamine, mescaline, strychnine, LSD and caffeine. All of these had negative effects on their time circles except one, LSD.

Small doses of LSD made the patterns around the web more regular, amphetamine caused only slight alterations and irregularities; however, caffeine above all made acute differences in the web structure and its patterns.

#7 Caffeine Experiment

In 1984, J.A. Nathanson found that methylxanthines(caffeine) in small doses can act as a natural pesticide. In high amounts it can kill worms, caterpillars and insects; however, in small doses it prevents them from eating the affected plants.

#6 Scientist's experiment

In 1995, NASA tried and repeated Witt's experiment. Their purpose was to check if spiders could be useful for checking the toxicity of various drugs.

They wanted to create programs, by analysing the geometry and patterns of the crystal, which in future will analyse web patterns and calculate the toxicity levels of various drugs in unbiased way.

The drugs they used were caffeine, Benzedrine(speed), Marijuana, Mescaline(peyote) and Chloral Hydrate(sleeping pills). The results weren't different from Witt's experiment. The more toxic the drug, the more the irregularities and sides left incomplete of the web.
