Often, our body find its own ways to tell if there’s something wrong! One such odd way is the twitching or jerk that you might feel while sleeping sometimes. Well, though it is not a troublesome health issue, it is not so much experiencing it! Have you ever felt it? Fret not, you’re not alone!

After a long hectic day at work when you just worked and worked sipping coffee after coffee so as to not lose the focus, arrived home finally, washed up yourself and walked straight to your cozy bed! You’re almost getting into the sleep when you feel that sudden jerk that disrupts the sleep and wakes you up, eyes open wide, that is what we’re talking about here.

According to the doctors, it is called the hypnic twitch. It is characterized by the feeling of falling that leads to jerking or twitching of the body while you wake up immediately. Some of the possible reasons for this hypnic twitch can be moderate to excess caffeine consumption before bed or some medications like Adderal and Ritalin.
However, they’re not the only two causes. It is also prevalent in overly-exhausted individuals who finally lie down to sleep and the twitching occurs as a consequence of falling asleep too fast. It happens because the brain cannot keep up with the sleep phases and thus restarts waking you up with a burst of chemicals that causes the jerk.
