#3 One more weird law
More often than not, people have started associating North Korea as the place with some of the weirdest rules to be followed.
Like how the haircut you get there needs to be government approved... the government decides who gets to live in the capital...owning a bible is illegal.. and in the scenario where you are jailed and manage to escape without your family, your entire bloodline for three generations grandparents, parents, and children is punished.
Joining this ever growing list of weird and brutal rules is yet another rule...
#2 Ban on Blue Jeans!
Yup, you read that right. North Korea has gone ahead and banned blue jeans....
Blue jeans are by far the most widely worn jeans all around the world and no one in North Korea can wear it.
You are punishable by law if you wear blue jeans...but why?!
#1 The reason is complicated
Blue jeans are illegal in North Korea because they are a symbol of the capitalist West, specifically America. By banning anyone from wearing them the leaders are delivering an anti US, and anti West message.
What makes the blue jeans illegal in North Korea, really weird is that they had plans to export them to Sweden in 2009. The plan was for the PUB department store to sell the jeans under the label, Noko. Following international outcry and condemnation, the department store withdrew from the deal. It seems as though the manufacture of jeans is permitted, but not the wearing of them.
