#4 Introduction
Whether it's during donating a blood or taking an injection for an illness, Doctors sometimes struggle to find our veins. That's why hospitals across the US are now testing a new non-invasive vein imaging method which involves a device originally developed for phlebotomy. This unique device encapsulates a near ultraviolet vein image, develops it, and projects it onto the skin using green light in real time. The machine used in it is called a Vein Viewer.
It is a handheld device that is designed by the Christie Medical Holdings company that uses near-infrared light to sense the position of a patient's veins. It then proceeds to project them on the skin of the patient in real time helping doctors and nurses in injecting the needle at the precise place. To know more, check out the next page...
#3 It's Working
The next obvious question that comes in the mind is that how does it work? It works by discharging near-infrared light, which is absorbed by hemoglobin present in the blood and then replicated by nearby tissue. After all this is done, the data is processed digitally by the unit, and projected in real-time onto the skin.
Then appears a picture. This is the picture doctors look for. This image delivers a precise image of the patient's blood outline. It can see patterns up to 0.6 inches (15mm deep), and veins up to 0.4 inches (10mm) deep. A fine feature mode also grows the contrast in the image, giving more thorough vein formations. This allows a doctor or a nurse to find turns in a person's veins. Isn't it amazing?

Now that you know about this technology, it isn't hard to perceive the advantages of this. "Only VeinViewer can provide pre, during and post-access benefits throughout the entire vascular access procedure," said Christie's president, George Pinho. And along with this, "It is also the only device of its kind that has been shown through clinical studies to increase both first-stick success and patient satisfaction by up to 100 per cent while reducing medically unnecessary [catheter] lines by over 30 percent."
