#16 Regina Kay Walters.

This picture shows Regina Kay Walters. She was 14. The picture was taken by Robert Ben Rhoades. Rhodes took the photo after cutting Walters' hair and making her wear a dress and heels, he then killed her in an abandoned barn in Illinois.
He was later arrested in the back of his 18 wheeler next to a nude woman, handcuffed and screaming. He is currently serving a life sentence.
#15 James Bulger
The toddler in this photo, James Bulger, is being led away from his mother by one of the two ten-year-old boys that would eventually murder him.
They took him on a 2.5 mile walk to a railway line, where they threw blue modelling paint in Bulger's eye, kicked and stomped on him and pelted him with bricks and stones. They later placed batteries in his mouth. Finally, they dropped a 22-pound iron bar on his head, fracturing his skull.
The boys laid him on the train tracks where he was later hit, in an attempt to make the death appear to be an accident. But it was clear upon examination that Bulger had been dead before being hit by the train, making the two ten-year-olds the youngest convicted murderers in British history.
#14 A Killer Party
Seventeen-year-old Tyler Hadley wanted to throw a party at his house, but his parents were home, so that afternoon he beat them both around the head and torso with a hammer until they died. He hid the bodies, cleaned up the mess, and hosted the party with his parents' bodies still in the house.
This photo was taken later in the night, after he'd told his friend Max (on the left) about the murders. Oh and he had just about enough time to declare on Facebook that he was having another party the next night. Before the police caught him the following morning.
#13 The Heaven's Gate Cult.
On March 26th, 1997, 39 members of the Heaven's Gate Cult committed suicide, believing that their souls would be transported by spaceship to the Hale-Bopp comet. The group was led by a man called 'Do', who believed he was a descendant of Jesus Christ.
Only one of the group's members, Rio DiAngelo/Richard Ford, did not kill himself. He videotaped the mansion in Rancho Santa Fe; however, the tape was not shown to police until 2002, five years after the event.
#12 Into The Wild.
This was the last photo McCandless took of himself after he ventured alone into the Alaskan Wilderness. Soon after it was taken, McCandless was found by hunters in an abandoned bus, apparently dead from starvation. Later, it was discovered he had actually eaten a poisonous root which increased his metabolism at an incredible rate, resulting in death.
McCandless' adventure was the inspiration for the book, and subsequent film, both titled Into The Wild.
#11 The Most Beautiful Suicide
In what's been termed 'the most beautiful suicide', Evelyn McHale jumped to her death from the Empire State Building. Photography student Robert Wiles heard the impact when McHale hit a UN Limousine, and took this shot, capturing McHale's absolute serenity. McHale had just left her fiancé, and her suicide note said: "He is much better off without me, I wouldn't make a good wife for anybody."
#10 Saylor Guilliams and Brenden Vega.
Saylor Guilliams and Brenden Vega were two 22-year-olds who thought it was a good day to go hiking.The hikers had gone on a late afternoon hike and were unprepared for the conditions, the lights from their cell phones were not enough to illuminate their path, and the hikers fell and injured themselves several times.
Vega seriously injured his arm, and Guilliams suffered two broken ankles and a broken wrist.Vega yelled for help for several hours and then left Guilliams alone to go for help. He eventually fell to his death treading the mountain path alone.
The next day another set of hikers in the area were taking photos. In their photos, you can see Saylor (with red hair) lying face down in the mud at the bottom of the cliff. Later, they noticed Saylor, and were able to call a helicopter to rescue her, saving her life.
#9 The Pulitzer Picture
In March 1993, while on a trip to Sudan, Kevin Carter was preparing to photograph a starving toddler trying to reach a feeding center when a hooded vulture landed nearby. Carter reported taking the picture, because it was his "job title", and leaving. He was told not to touch the children for fear of transmitting disease. After taking the picture, he chased the vulture away.
In April 1994, the photograph won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography. On 27 July 1994 Carter drove his way to Parkmore near the Field and Study Center, an area where he used to play as a child, and committed suicide.
#8 Tina Watson
This photo was taken by Gary Stemper of his wife. She's the one who you can see swimming in front of the camera. But there is something devastating going on in the background. The divers in the background are Tina Watson and a rescue diver trying to save her life. Tina Watson and her husband Gabe had come to the Great Barrier Reef for their honeymoon.
Tina's husband claims that she was caught in an undercurrent, and he tried to help her but couldn't. Conflicting statement led to an investigation, and authorities suggest he turned off his wife's air regulator and bear-hugged her until she drowned, then turned it back on and resurfaced. On trial back in the US, Gabe Watson was acquitted.
#7 John Lennon
Lennon is photographed here beside Mark David Chapman, a man who was obsessed with Lennon and would shoot The Beatles star to death only hours later.
When he was asked why he did it, Chapman responded by saying "I thought I would acquire his fame".
#6 Columbine High School
This photo was taken two weeks before the 1999 Columbine High School shooting – 12 students and one teacher were killed.
Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold can clearly be seen sitting at the top left of the photo foreshadowing the events to come by pretending to shoot the camera.
#5 The Omagh bombing
The scene that's depicted here could be your own town, but it was taken moments before a car bomb exploded in Omagh, Northern Ireland.
The bomb was planted in the red vehicle behind the people in this picture by the Real Irish Republican Army. The explosion killed 29 people. Thankfully the man and child in this picture survived.
#4 Gas Chamber
This photo was taken from inside the gas chamber at Auschwitz, Poland.
You can clearly see thousands of scratch marks that line the walls of the chamber from prisoners who were herded to their deaths like cattle.
#3 The Candy Man.
Dean Corll was known as the Candy Man because he handed sweets out to neighborhood kids. He was one of the most prolific serial killers in history, raping, torturing and murdering 28 boys between 1970 and 1973. He had two accomplices, one of which eventually shot him dead.
This photo was found among his belongings. It features a bound 12-year-old boy and Corll's torture implements. What's worse is that this child has never been identified, suggesting Corll murdered more kids than the police are aware of.
#2 Caught
Reynaldo Dagsa was celebrating New Years Eve with his family, and wanted a photograph to commemorate the occasion. The disturbing photo was taken split seconds before Reynaldo's murder, and captured the murderer in the act.
Reynaldo was a politician, and had previously put the murderer in prison for car theft.
#1 The Peoples Temple of the Disciples of Christ.
Jim Jones founded the The Peoples Temple of the Disciples of Christ, a cult whose activity culminated in the largest mass suicide in human history, with 918 deaths.
A large vat of Flavor-Aid was mixed with valium and cyanide and members ingested it via syringe, with adults squirting it into their kids' mouths.
276 of the deceased were children. It was the greatest single loss of American civilian life in a deliberate act until the events of September 11, 2001.
