Toxic fabric dyes
We have come a long way from toxic color dyes to skin friendly dyes. But in the past, color dyes were not only expensive but they were also very toxic. The dye contained arsenic and copper sulfate.
Crinoline
Whenever we see a lady wearing a crinoline, we are reminded of the past times, where the princess and queens used to wear these. But what we don't know is what they actually went through when they wore this. They would get stuck in the doorway and sometimes even get too close to fire without realizing it.
Foot binding
This weird tradition was very popular in China till 1911. It was banned after people realized that it wasn't a good thing to do to your body. The noble families followed this tradition, where they used to bind, young girl's feet. This was done to resemble a lotus as their feet would stop growing normally.
Extreme high heels
These are known as Chopines. we are very lucky to be living in the time where our heels look pretty and are comfortable. These were actually introduced because of the mud on the streets. But then this trend spread across Europe among women and the heels height kept increasing. There was even a time, where they couldn't walk without their servant's help.
Belladonna for shining eyes
Now we know how toxic belladonna is but the Queens of the past weren't aware of the fact and that is why they used it to make their eyes look sparkly.
Toxic cosmetics
The noble families used to follow this trend. Porcelain white skin was used to whiten their faces. This caused bad skin, hair loss, etc. The blush used to contain arsenic. Which is why the women back then only used to live maximum by their 30's.
Uncomfortable maternity girdle
God, knows why they even came up with this concept. This not only looks uncomfortable but was very painful too. It was heavily boned, zippered.
Corsets
Corsets were made of metal and then evolved to wooden pieces. These were not at all good for the bones and caused, deformed the skeleton and displaced the internal organs.
This weird knitted underwear
This was such a bad idea, why would any guy wear this weird knitted underwear? This doesn't even serve the purpose it is made for.
Stiff collars
People used to bear the uncomfortable things for the sake of fashion. This stiff color was the same. It looked awesome, but it was quite uncomfortable.
