Sarah Atwell was just like any other kid her age but then her parents saw something happening to their baby's face. Sarah's face started to change. The parents were distraught and sought out medical help.
#6 Tumor
Sarah was just 8 months old when she was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis. It is a genetic condition where one side of the face is consumed by a tumor, making it droop.
#5 So many surgeries
Sarah Atwell is now 17 years old and lives in Nova Scotia, Canada. She has undergone numerous surgeries without much difference to her physical appearances. Because of her appearance, Sarah was bullied and discriminated a lot.
#4 Understanding
When Sarah could bear it no more, she decided to make a video when her parents were away to deliver a heartfelt message. She asked people why they bully her. Why they can't understand that she is the way she is because of a tumor, something she cannot control. The message was simple, clear and straight to the point.
#3 Few Friends
Sarah spoke from her heart and tried to get across a message that touched many. Her whole life she's lived with it, suffered because of it. She said she had many surgeries but made no difference. And she had only a few people to call true friends.
#2 Suffered
Sarah said she had been called names and that hurt her...a lot. Sarah asks why people think as if she chose to stay this way and blame her for it. She has no choice but people have the choice- to understand.
#1 Major Surgery
Sarah went through a major surgery recently and said that,"It's pretty awesome. I am pretty sure most of it is gone except a little bit around the eyes. The doctor said he could not be sure if it would come back or not."
