This Not-So-Bright Python Eats A Porcupine And Regrets It...With All It's Life
Ever wonder what might happen if a python ate a porcupine? Well, wonder no more. One not-so-smart snake recently dined on a porcupine and as you can imagine, didn't live to brag about it.
It all started when a cyclist riding along one of the mountain bike trails in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, spotted a very engorged snake. He stopped to take some photos and posted them on social media.
Then you ask?
#2 Fatal Meal
The photos went viral in no time and they attracted the attention of locals who went to the park in the following days to take a look at the swollen snake. Of course, no one had any idea of what the reptile had eaten.
Six days later, park rangers found the python dead near the bike trail so they decided to cut it open and have a look inside. What they found was a very dangerous meal: a 30 lbs porcupine!
#1 Quite Normal But Then...
Though it was what killed this particular python, it isn't unusual for this type of snakes to eat porcupines. In fact, many species of snakes eat them along other horned or quilled animals.
The size of the animal shouldn't have been a problem either as pythons posses the ability to alter their metabolism, as well as the size of their organs, after a meal.
Rangers found the snake underneath a rocky ledge, where it had apparently fallen. It's possible that on impact, the quills inside its engorged belly may have pierced the python's digestive tract, which could've killed it.
