6 Scientifically Proven Reasons Why Couples Eventually Start to Look Alike
Scientists have confirmed that we're also on a look-out for people that closely resembles our opposite-sex parent. That means a girl will look out for a guy who resembles her father in appearance and behavior and a guy will fall for a girl who will resemble his mother. The study also established that if your parents weren’t young when they had you, you’ll look for a partner who’s older than you.
#5 The Years Spent Together
An Americal social psychologist named Robert Zanjonc compared photographs of couples on their wedding day with those taken 25 years later and his study clearly showed that even if a husband and wife had no facial similarities at all, some 25 years later they looked surprisingly alike. Another surprising fact that was established from this survey is that the more marital happiness a couple reported, the greater their increase in facial resemblance.
#4 Sharing experiences
Another major reason as to why they begin looking like each other is that they share same experiences together. Everything they go through together as a couple affects their body language and emotional state. And their face tends to speak of those happy and sad moments they have spent together. Scientists also claim that the couples also get wrinkles at the same place.
#3 We’re attracted to people who look like us.
According to a study, we're attracted by people who have similar facial characteristics, and this is known as assortative mating, a theory suggesting that individuals with similar phenotypes mate with one another more frequently. Furthermore, the couples who have similar facial features tend to have children which resemble both of the parents very closely. It is concluded by the scientists that these individuals try to maximally pass on their genes to the next generation.
#2 Similar immune systems
The performance of our immune system depends on multiple factors including our eating habits and physical exercise. And scientists have concluded that the couples who had been married for a long time often have similar immune system
Couples who are in tune with each other often mirror each other's body language and habits and therefore both of the partners often come across as very similar to one another. Scientists state that partners tend to change their own habits throughout their married life.
