McDonald’s Worker With Down Syndrome Retires After 32 Years Leaving Behind Sad Customers





There are many people who are facing a real challenge like dealing with their disabilities and also competing with the world. They have been said that they are not normal and as people with the rare case are only okay with special schools and colleges. But here is a man who has Down syndrome inspired many with his work that made many people sad after his retirement.

There are many people in this world who are suffering from Down syndrome because of the chromosomal disorder that occurs when a baby is born with an extra chromosome in each of their cells. People suffering from Down syndrome had to deal with the harshness of life and people staring at them makes them uncomfortable to interact with society. Having this syndrome only means that people will look at them with pity and not with respect but here is the inspiring man who is suffering from Down syndrome yet he served his people for 32 years.

Russell O’Grady started his work at this food chain when he was just 18 years old in the year 1986. Despite having the syndrome he served his work by smiling at every customer who used to visit the restaurant.

He has often seen cleaning tables and greeting customers with a smile which made him popular among his people. Now at the age of 50, he will be leaving behind his sad customers who made a quick visit to the restaurant just to see him for the last time.

McDonald’s supervisor Courtney Purcell said that she will also miss Russell who not only bought smile to everyone’s face but he became their favorite worker. She Further adds, “There were regular customers who always came in to see Russell on Thursday and Friday, and the staff looks after him, so we are going to miss him’. Russell’s brother told the daily newspaper that his work made his family incredible proud of him.

He knows that he has Down syndrome and people are going to judge him on his every stage of life but he proved them that his syndrome has nothing to do with his work. He recollects one incident where he was asked that “Are you Handicapped?” And his answer was “ I used to be when I went to school, but now I work at McDonald’s”,’he said. He began his job at the local restaurant during the time when people with disabilities were frequent in the workspace. His smile and his dedication towards his work inspired many disabled people to support themselves and live a normal life without being a burden on others.
