Did You Know What Actually Goes Into A Nutella Jar? Shocking!
Everyone loves Nutella! And who wouldn't? It has hazelnuts and chocolate in abundance. But maybe, there is more to this jar of happiness than we truly know of!
The internet was hit by a viral craze of an image of what the jar actually contained and a prime ingredient was palm oil. Now palm oil has been banned due to its high carcinogenic values by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). So when parent company Ferrao heard this, they obviously denied!
#4 The Ingredients!
The photo that went viral shows the jar filled with palm oil, skim milk powder, cocoa, hazelnuts, sugar. We all know that the recipe for the spread has been a closely guarded secret, but if you looked closer you'd notice each 15g tablespoon of the spread contains 8.5g of sugar – which means that each 400g jar contains a whopping 227.2g. So, if each sugar cube is about 3g, a jar of Nutella would have 75 sugar cubes in it. Add to this that notorious palm oil and you just got yourself death in a jar!
If this doesn't scare you already, we don't know what will!
#3 The History!
What started off as a tricky solution to the shortage of cocoa in Italy, during WWII soon became a popular breakfast regular!
The inventor Pietro Ferrero's son, Michele soon turned it into a brand that 'spread' happiness world over! The jar came from Germany and popularity, from France and England. Before you knew it, there was a World Nutella Day and Nutella Breakfast Championships!Phew!
But then, it all came tumbling down!

#2 Issues Creep Up!
With over 30,000 upvotes on Reddit, the photo is a craze!
Already currently in bad shape, the company said,"We don't disclose the full proportions of the ingredients in Nutella as our recipe is unique and we wish to safeguard this. The product's label provides simple and clear nutritional information per 15g portion, or two heaped teaspoons, as well as per 100g. The ingredients are also listed on the Nutella website."
#1 The Company Didn't deny it!
Although Ferraro haven't said their ingredients are dangerous, they do agree that adding small portions of a 'particular' ingredient is essential for taste!
Hmm! Makes us wonder if this is what 'sugar coating' has always been about. Check this video from the company website itself!
