Heat the furnace and melt the aluminum rods in a vessel. Make sure you keep yourself safe by wearing gloves and maintain a safe distance from the heat. Take corn grains in a thick metal bucket. Now slowly pour the liquid aluminum in the bucket. Intense heat is developed from the liquid aluminum.

The moment aluminum is added to the corn grain the reaction takes place with the help of heat. Slowly the corn starts to burst and form a delicious edible thing called popcorn. To spread the heat evenly toss the grains from time to time. Be careful while tossing, do not get hurt.

When aluminum is added, the thick shell of the grain is heated. Immediately after that, the inner part of the grain gets heated up. The water content of the grains forms a pressurized water vapor. The increasing temperature and pressure will create the thick shell to explode. The grain size increases 30 times and eventually tears off. The soft portion formed after the explosion is the edible material.

The water vapor causing the explosion is not found in any other grain. It is naturally found in corn and is one of its unique features. One can compare this with the formation of syrup.

This process can successfully occur only if the water content of the grain is 14%. If the water content is less than 14% then the desired results will not be achieved. If one puts the grain in the water for a long time the water content is increased by 1% only. Evaporation and explosion won’t take place even if you drill the corn with a needle or keep it under the sun or heat it below 150 degrees due to less water content.
