It's Everywhere In Florida And It's Insanely Dangerous:Meet The Devil's Drug
Flakka is the newest deadly super drug on the street. Its appeal is enormous and the desire for Flakka has picked up in the last year alone. It is what some call an epidemic, one that even rivals the the crack cocaine craze of the 1980's. Flakka is a Hispanic colloquial term that refers to a beautiful, slender, elegant woman who charms all that she meets, much like the drug itself. Nicknamed "five dollar insanity" or "the devil's drug", Flakka threatens to be the charmer that kills.
On the streets of Florida it is known as Flakka, and in other parts of the country such as California it is also called Gravel. A synthetic crystal imported from China, it is so cheap that it used to be the substance cheap dealers cut their stuff with. In fact, it was only recently declared a dangerous substance and illegal to export by the Chinese Government. Flakka is cheap, immediately addictive, with terrifying trips. You might ask, what is a Flakka trip like and what makes it so dangerous?
Learn more about it ahead.
# The Devil's Drug
A single dose of Flakka smoked, swallowed or snorted can give the user a very strong but fleeting burst of euphoria. This is quickly followed by a sickening paranoia and fear. The drug completely deregulates the victim's autonomic nervous system causing them to hallucinate. Some have reportedly been convinced, in a paranoid stupor, that they are being chased. Others have jumped off bridges in need of water. Flakka turns users into paranoid zombies with superhuman strength and dangerously high heart rate and blood pressure.
It is one of the most addictive drugs ever seen and because it is inexpensive, for a mere sum of 5 dollars a user can get high for a few days. The second they begin to withdraw, due to its potency, they crave it. Hospitals now get dozens of patients a day. When they arrive, their heart rate is 150-200 beats per minute and their blood pressure at lethal levels of 230/160. Often their internal organs have already begun to fail.
# The Flakka Business
Flakka as a business has a staggeringly large profit margin. Nearly all Flakka is manufactured in China and was only recently classified as illegal to export. The drug is a Cathinone, chemically related to drugs of the bath salt category. It can be bought from China at 1000 dollars a kilogram and sold to a US wholesaler for 4000 dollars. This kilogram, when broken into the 5 dollar units that is its market value, can earn 50,000 dollars on the streets.
A police officer called Flakka "the Silicon Valley of drug smuggling", with startups, entrepreneurs all merely in need of a credit card and an internet connection. Dealers are of two types, rich college kids and local street gangs. These college kids earn up to 30,000 rupees a day and it is usually their sudden lifestyle changes that make them suspects. Street gangs use children as lookouts, an eerie homage to Breaking Bad. The target audience is the poor and bus terminals have dealings conducted in plain sight.
# Flakka Stories
The horror stories of Flakka trips and addictions will warn you off this dangerous substance forever. Take the example of Stephanie, mother of two. On ingesting Flakka, she began hallucinating that she was being chased and started running. Her body temperature spiked and she tore off her clothes and jumped three stories off a bridge into the Intercoastal Waterway. "I remember having seizures and having just continued paranoia and feeling like people were chasing me and following me and talking about me. I still suffer from nightmares and have to take medication for that." she explained.
Another reports that when you smoke Flakka, you begin eating out the garbage cans. The damage for many can be permanent, and symtoms of paranoia and attention deficiency linger so long that some drug treatment sessions can only be 20 minutes long because that is the patient's attention span. Flakka remains a danger to the community and to life. Its effects are not worth the few seconds of euphoria it provides.
