Everyone just can't be bullied.
Ellie Jones, was born with a facial deformity because of which she was bullied at every point in her life. She was fitted with braces when she was 14 years old as her family had no idea as to what was wrong with her jaw.
#4 She had a jaw deformity.
She admits that she didn't have any idea about the deformity she had. She always felt uncomfortable with the way her teeth had been taking the shape. Strangers, as they passed by, would often make comments on her.
It was later learned that she had congenital face condition that caused her jaw to stop growing as a child.
#3 Learn her experience.
She says, “I always thought I had a small face and jaw, but I never knew I could've had a problem like this,” Jones says. "My teeth always bothered me, to the point when I even tried to put elastic bands in my mouth to see if they would straighten. It's didn't work obviously, but the thought was there."
She says that there was a time when she was made a big fun when strangers passed comments.
“Growing up I had the same group of friends, so everyone just knew me as me. I think I was just very lucky with who my friends where. People may have said things behind my back, I don't know, but all I know now is that I am who I am because of all of this.”
But then something happened. You got to read more for that.
#2 What happens when she gets surgery.
Her Orthodontist recruited consultant surgeon, Emma Woolley to help the Jones. Woolley explains that this kind of situation is quite common but generally people don't get the idea that they have jaw deformity and they accept it as they have difficulty in biting food. Jones at the age of 16 went under her first surgery which according to her, was a terrible experience.
She remained on liquid diet and was unable to talk properly. After a period of six months, she began to heal and since it was her 11th grade prom, she was quite excited that her appearance was greatly improved.
She also took another surgery for her chin which did wonders.
#1 Her self-confidence boosted to a great level.
According to her, she now feels 'normal.' She says that her self-confidence has increased and it was worth the year of pain. She says, "I just hope young girls or boys who are going through it will one day feel as confident as I do now. It's a long process, but the results are amazing. I never knew as a teen that I could ever feel as good about myself as I do now.”
She now plans to pursue a career in photography, with a new found confidence.
The girl was bullied and now today, she is ready to conquer the world.
