This 'simple' math problem is sending parents in to meltdown!

You think you can solve junior school mathematics problem very easily. Well, this question is about to give you second thoughts!

You might have cracked any recent quant's exam but that doesn't change the fact that there have been times when we hated maths in our syllabus. And admit it or not we were extremely delighted when we saw our teachers or parents struggling with the same problems that we couldn't solve during the test.

In that case, how about giving such a problem to a junior school kid? I know this isn't going too well, like, firstly talking about mathematics in school when all we wanted was to play video games and watch cartoons and when we ourselves have passed that phase, getting challenged by an elementary school problem.

However, the problem you see here was indeed given to junior school kids, those of 5-7 years of age, which of coursed irked me and so I thought why not try it. Even you don't try solving it, do you? The problem reads-

"There are some people on train. 19 people get off the train at the first stop. 17 people get on the train. Now there are 63 people on the train. How many people were on the train to begin with?"

An English mom, Louise Bloxham, took a click of the problem from her 7-year old son's question paper, that was given to him to solve, and posted in on twitter. Initially people just commented answers but later it turned into a twitter war as always.

But no, don't think you're too smart even if you solved it, read ahead!

Now the question is, was it really worth a junior school problem?

I really do not know, however, I can give you the answer to the problem, it is 65; ya! Even you figured that out, right?

But we're not 7 years old either!
