The world is not a stranger to some odd predicaments. And one of those happens to be some of these dead bodies around the world that refuse to conform to the natural cycle of decaying.

The first one on our list is the body of Saint Betina Zita. She was revered throughout her life and was well liked by everyone. And this lead to a rise of a cult when she died in the year 1272. Later, almost 300 years later when her body was exhumed, it was astounding that it had not decayed as it should have. And you can stand witness to this by visiting the body at the Basilica of San Frediano in Lucca, Italy.

Dashi-Dorzho Itigilov was a Buddhist lama who was originally from Russia. It is said in 1972, when he was still breathing, he asked his funeral rites to begin and asked for his body to be buried in the exact same position he would die in. He died in the lotus position when he was meditating. And strangely, he asked his body to be exhumed after a few years.

32 years later, his body was like that of someone who had died 36 hours ago. But its appearance has changed after it was exhumed.

The story goes that about 500 years ago, a 15 year old Incan girl was led up the steep steps of a Argentinian mountain with the intent of using her as a religious sacrifice. She was killed with a single blow to the head. And was left in a sitting position with her clothes on and ceremonial objects alongside her.

It is believed that the cool temperatures and dry, low-oxygen air of the Andes helped preserve her body until it was discovered in 1999. Since no one knows her name, she is called as 'The Maiden'or 'La Doncella'.

Lady Xin Zhui is said to have been the wife of a minor Chinese nobleman during the Han dynasty. But lived quite an extravagant life. She said to have lived quite a luxurious and fine life given for the time and place she lived in. She became morbidly obese afters years of eating meat and doing no work. She eventually died of a heart attack, an adverse effect of her lifestyle no doubt.

But her body is a rare case. It was found in 1971, about 2000 years after her death. And her skin was still soft and her limbs could still flex at the joints. There is no prior evidence to point to how this is possible.

Saint Catherine Laboure is said to have had a vision where she was visited by the Virgin Mary. And she had placed her hands upon the laps of Virgin Mary as she listened to her in an empty chapel. And people of France in the then year 1830 started wearing medallions commemorating her visions.

She died in 1876 and was later exhumed in 1933 in lieu of her official beatification.Her body was in perfect state of preservation and its joints are still supple. You can witness this for yourself when you are in Paris. The only exception being her hands were stored separately to honor her vision.
