Her Facebook Post Caused This Accident. But When I Saw What She Wrote? It Broke My Heart.
The 4.8 billion cell phone users in the world are six times more likely to cause a road accident while texting as compared to drunk drivers. What's more, a significant amount of people over the world admit to have texted while driving at least once. If you are driving at 60 km/h, which is quite common and look down to your phone for 5 seconds, you will have driven for half the length of a football field without looking. That's a lot of room for misfortune.
This is the bone chilling story of Courtney Sanford who died due to texting while driving. But what was so important that couldn't wait?
#5 Meet Courtney
32-year-old Courtney was just like you and me - a woman with dreams and she owned a cell phone. She was very social and liked to keep in touch at all times.
One fine day she happened to be driving and her favourite song "Happy" by Pharell Williams came on the radio. And just at that moment, she felt the urge to post about it.
Courtney pulled her phone out, fired up Facebook and typed "The happy song makes me HAPYY!"
What happened next left the entire world shocked...
#4 Head On
Those were Courtney's last words to the world.
Within moments, Courtney's car hit the divider and went on over to the other side. She would have been lucky to survive that but unfortunately, she ran into a truck head on. Her car slid into a ditch as a result of the collision and that was the end of any hope of her surviving the crash.
And just like that, a life came to an end.But what about the innocent law abiding truck driver? What had he done to deserve to be in an accident?
#3 The Truck Driver
Fortunately, Courtney was the only fatality in the incident. The truck driver escaped the driver's cabin of the truck and survived the crash. But was it really worth it, the entire mess? Was the post worth it?
Whatever the answer to that question, one thing is for sure - Courtney's car was left in a horrific condition for the world to see and definitely "sends a message" to others who text while driving. See what it looks like, you won't even be able to recognize it...
#2 Is That Even A Car?
This is what was left of her car. I don't even want to find out what was left of her. Shocking.
If you know someone who texts while driving, they need to see this.
"In a matter of seconds, a life was over just so she could notify some friends that she was happy." - A Police Officer's Comment
The news coverage of the area revealed how stunned this entire incident left the rest of the world, even at peak hours.
#1 Everyone Was Stunned
Rush hour traffic was brought to a complete standstill as a result. Courtney's story goes to show just how much we have given into the tiny devices in our pocket. Is your life really worth risking over soething so fleeting and transient?
Share it with the people you care about and drive on a regular basis. And if you are one of them, by now you must have made a resolution to never text while driving again.
We never know who could be next.
