There is something about the color black, and when it is on an animal it just looks even better. Check out these magnificent creations of nature!

If the world recognizes one all black animal, then it is the black panther.

Arising out of a phenomenon called Melanism, the panthera species is titled differently in different continents. For example - Panther in Asia, leopard in Africa and Jaguar in America.

Melanism in the jaguar (Panthera onca) is conferred by a dominant allele, and in the leopard (Panthera pardus) by a recessive allele

It may come as a surprise to most of you reading this, but genetic discoloration makes animals look better than humans - any day!

This black fawn deer for instance is a classic bait to Melanism and could probably be the only one different in the litter!

Black Fawn Deers are also seen to have a spotted or complete white tails, making them even cuter!

Also called the Black western snake, this particular creature is nonvenomous and belongs to a family of Colubridae. Thus it is not necessarily harmful to human beings, but if irked could bite like a b***h. Black rat snake may also have different colored family members - this happens due to genetic discoloration again!

This little penguin from Sub- Antartic island of South Georgia shot to fame in 2010 when a National Geographic reporter created a video of it. Amidst a pool of white, yellow and black bodies, this black penguin is a classic case of melanism.

The Black Lizards or the Cordylus niger is a medium sized lizard restricted to Table Mountain on the Cape Peninsula and a second, isolated population near Langebaan.

Their color helps them absorb sufficient heat in the sun. Unlike many other lizard types that occur in families, these little ones pretty much go solo!

They are identified by their color, spiny and flat body.
